Quayside Storage Facility

Lowestoft Windfarm Project

Quayside Storage Facility
Heavy Tank Lift

Oil Tank Supplies Ltd (OTS) was chosen to manufacture and install 2No 150,000L above ground steel bunded "SecuriTanks™" for a new CTV Refuelling System and storage of 300,000L marine gas oil. The facility has been developed for refuelling of the crew transfer vessels (CTV) operating on the offshore windfarm.

OTS was actively involved in the early design stages of the facility to ensure environmental compliance given the harbour location. Special consideration was paid to the external paint finish to provide minimum 10 year corrosion protection. The scheme had to be modular in design to allow ease of installation and subsequent removal on completion of the service contract. A further steel fill cabinet to provide a common fill point for both tanks along with environmental protection equipment. Connection points were provided off the tank for 3No CTV refuelling cabinets (installed by others).

OTS engineering team were also called upon to help a Netherlands based specialist contractor brought in to design and install a temporary tank base required to protect the quayside, this meant exacting tolerances needed in the tank construction given both tanks were linked with balance pipe manifold and common fill points.

The images below show the complexity of the tank lift and the size of mobile crane required (400t) to place the tanks to their final position on the quayside.

OTS specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of large bulk fuel storage tanks for fuel farms, distribution depots and 24/7 "pop up" filling stations. All tanks are designed in accordance with the COP Regulations and have a design life expectancy of 25 years.

Show Time – setting out the stall for 2014

Fuel Quality Storage Solutions

Oil Tank Supplies continues to expand its coverage and the scope of products now being offered to support fuel oil distribution and storage applications.

The company was present at two leading trade shows this year - the FPS Expo in Harrogate, for the third year running - and the Facilities Show in Birmingham. The latter being a first for OTS focussing on TankCare as we continue to push out into the tank maintenance and fuel quality service support market.

Products
In the two years since OTS first attended the FPS Expo, the company has set a cracking pace, providing innovative and cost effective solutions for fuel quality conditioning and stock monitoring. These developments have enabled us to widen our scope over a number of market sectors, such as data centres and support facilities using stand-by power generation as well as more traditional makets in transportation and bulk fuel oil distribution facilities.  In this edition of OTS TankTimes, we review some of the latest product and service developments.

Sales team
In order to secure new business opportunities, we have strengthened our front office team with the recruitment of two highly experienced commercial fuelling professionals; Bill Bower as national sales manager and Nick Blanks, project and installations manager.

In addition to these appointments, Nick Hughes takes over from Barrie Hughes as environmental, health and safety manager.  Nick will assist the projects team on technical surveys and he will be responsible for the logistics side of the business.

Business process
In order to ensure we maintain the highest standards of operational efficiency, OTS has invested in a new generation business management software suite.  As an integrated package, this will enable the company to track and manage sales enquiries from first contact through to estimates, project planning, procurement, delivery and invoicing.  Other strategic investments have also been made to introduce mobile computing using  ‘cloud’ technology to support project management.

Focus on Oil Distribution Facilities

tankstream-300x200Oil Tank Supplies are attending the forthcoming Facilities Show 2013 in Harrogate, 17 & 18 April.

Visitors will be very welcome to visit our stand for some light refreshments and an update on our new product developments.

Our focus this year is on the oil distribution hubs which are an essential part of the UK’s national supply chain. Typically these comprise three large capacity tanks for diesel, gas oil and kerosene. The latter is used for heating in domestic and public utilities.

oil4wales-300x200OTS is a recognised prime contractor taking full responsibility for decommissioning as well as design and build. Projects completed include Turriff Fuels of Aberdeenshire and Oil 4 Wales depots in Cardiff, Carmarthen and Lampeter, Ceredigion. New contracts currently in progress include a distribution depot for Halso Petroleum, Lichfield.

All of these installations use OTS TankStream web monitoring facilities. A new generation Fuel Control System has been installed at Lampeter to facilitate 24 hours operational capability. This features a touch screen display and printer allowing the driver to review tank stock status and obtain a printed record of the delivery transaction.

Rooftop solar electricity panels on factory roof

OTS Factory Solar PanelsOil Tank Supplies is using rooftop solar panels to generate electricity for its factory work shops and offices at the Springhill Business Park, Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire.

The investment underlines the company’s commitment to helping achieve national targets for carbon emissions reduction. The 30KW Solar PV system is expected to generate 25,000 kWh per year.

“This was a significant outlay for our company,” explains OTS Chairman, Bruce Woodall. “We have signed up for the Green Energy Certification scheme which allows us to offset our energy costs against the generation of solar electricity which feeds into the national grid.”

Bruce Woodall continues: “Our business is geared to the requirements of the oil supply industry and we are all very much aware of the environmental impact of all our activities, through from exploration, to production, distribution and the storage of fuel oil.

“In the long term we are expecting a positive return by reducing our factory operating costs. But for today, the most immediate benefit is in showing our support for our customers who are also looking to reduce their carbon footprints by dealing with companies that have good practical measures in place for reducing pollution”.
