Calling all landfill, land reclamation and mining operators! Are your leachate management solutions compliant?

Whether you’re developing a new site or looking for ways to improve or develop leachate management at an existing site, ensuring that you are fully compliant is one of the primary concerns of most organisations looking for leachate management solutions.

Compliance requires that your leachate management plan considers the need for storing the leachate your site produces, as well as planning for its disposal.

Leachate landfill storage

The current UK government guidance states that you ‘must provide independent third-party Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) for the construction of your leachate storage and treatment facility’ and ‘submit a CQA plan to your local Environment Agency office outlining the work you propose to carry out’.

Fortunately, we can help. Our team of skilled engineers can help prepare and sign off on CQA plans that include:

  • The location and design of all tanks (including raw and treated leachate storage, chemicals and other liquids or powders for treatment)

  • The maximum capacity of the primary tanks

  • The location of all pipework

  • The materials used to construct the storage tanks and the secondary containment

  • The plans for conformance testing

  • The post-construction integrity testing plans

  • The structural calculations for tanks and basal containment

  • The design and capacity of all secondary containment

  • Confirmation that all material will be resistant to the liquid being stored

  • The design of any leak detection system

Whether you are looking for a bespoke, long-term leachate storage & management solution or you need a short-term leachate hire tank for your site, our engineers are able to supply the same, detailed planning information that will demonstrate compliance.

Leachate landfill disposal

In addition to showing how you plan to collect and store leachate, the plan for managing leachate must show how you will either treat it on-site or dispose of it offsite.

Leachate storage tanks can operate either as intermediate tanks or tight tanks. Intermediate tanks will hold leachate temporarily until it is released for treatment at an on-site facility. Tight tanks hold leachate until it is pumped out and removed to either an off-site treatment facility or disposed of in an approved manner.

If your leachate management solution requires the use of tight tanks, our leachate disposal service is an integral part of the solution. Once your leachate landfill tank is full, or the project has ended, the contents are then transferred to a tanker for removal to an appropriate waste facility site for treatment and safe disposal.

Our leachate service

All our bespoke leachate tanks are:

  • Built to order with a specification from 25,000L to 125,000L

  • Either closed or open bunded (dependent on standard requirements for contamination and environmental protection)

  • Supplied with a choice of Fill and off take flange couplings (standard 4inch or custom requirement)

  • Equipped with ladders and gantries for service access

We can also provide hire tanks for temporary operations and a leachate disposal service.
